HOURLY THERAPY

In therapy, I work with adults, 18 years and older, most often with a Cognitive Behavioral, Positive Psychology and Family Systems approach.  This means our focus relies on what goes on in that mind of yours regarding yourself and the world around you, highlighting your strengths as well as the role you play in the groups you are a part of, your family, work teams and friend groups for starters (i.e. being an individual + being part of a system).

I often work with professionals, from executives to entrepreneurs, mental health professionals to attorneys, seeking balance and understanding, coordinating intellect, emotional awareness and personal growth.

When working hourly, you will likely be addressing focal points of loss or pain required for personal wholeness and internal cohesion.

Trauma and Pain: My professional background and training is in trauma.  This relates to my current work in how trauma shows up in all of our lives through change, loss, relationships and life events.

Complex History and Spiritual Belief Systems: My clients are often trying to work their way out of the heaviness of disappointment, depression, anxiety, disappointment, perfectionism, or are addressing damaging life experiences, challenging relationships, or complex personal and family histories.  I also work with individuals who struggle with high levels of guilt, shame and loneliness, which many times shows up in their spiritual beliefs and faith.

Major Life Transitions: The type of life experiences that can be considered a “major life transition” with my clients might include:

  • difficult or broken relationships

  • loss - which can include a person, financial means, a job or loss of a life dream or expectation

  • major relationship discoveries and changes: divorce, break-ups, infidelity, substance abuse

  • job or career change, retirement, succession planning, retirement, empty nest

  • high levels of disappointment or surprise with self and personal decisions

  • personal patterns with relationships, anger, shame, guilt, anxiety

  • changes in spiritual beliefs, groups, membership

Goals and Focus Points: Content includes focusing on meaningful life events and pursuit of strength through personal growth and change. Therapeutic goals focus on emotional healing and emotional fitness emphasizing quality of life and not just symptom management or removal.

Emotional Literacy & Emotional Fitness: To work well with your emotions, you have to know what they are (emotional literacy). Then, being emotionally fit you take your emotional and relational awareness and use it.

We are aware of what physical fitness is - working physically in ways so that when it comes time to do something challenging, your body is ready to perform. Emotional fitness fits that concept: awareness, knowledge and meaning that makes appropriate action accessible engaging a chosen personal legacy at work and at home. Usually this entails work on meaningful life experiences, triggers and courageous personal change.
